Welcome to Nic’s accessibility minute

I was talking about image accessibility the other day and I mentioned that there are decorative and informative images. What’s an informative image?

It’s an image that provides information that is not available elsewhere on the page. Typically you can have an image as the only content of a link or a button. You can have information in images like a graph or any other kind of image that provides information. As the name says.

When you have those, you have to provide clear and concise text that describes the image. Unless the image is the only destination of a link, or the only content of a button. At that point you have to describe the link or the action.

There you go!
